Driver suffers heart attack, bus rolls over cyclist couple
Couple had rented their cycles from a premium bicycle sharing service just half an hour before the accident occurred

What should have been a pleasant evening ride turned into a tragedy for a couple when the driver of a private bus suffered a heart attack, lost control of his vehicle which rolled down an underpass in reverse and crushed the couple on their bicycles. The accident occurred near Vaishnodevi Circle.

The driver of the bus, which belongs to a leading pharmaceutical company, was rushed to the hospital where he breathed his last.

The couple had rented their cycles from a premium bicycle sharing service just half an hour before the accident occurred. According to the information given to the agency, the victims were identified as Roshan Thakur, a resident of Devam Apartment near Godrej Garden City, and Swati Sharma. The victims reportedly were to get married in a month.

According to witnesses, the driver of the staff bus was driving up the incline of Tragad underpass when he suffered a heart attack. "The driver was in no condition to apply brakes. The bus began rolled back and rammed into the two cyclists before crashing into a car and autorickshaw 500 m from the spot. Passers-by, who rushed to the rescue, called 108 emergency service," said witnesses.

Sources revealed that the driver later died in the hospital. He was 41 years old.


The police arrived at the spot and towed away the bus. R H Vala, in-charge inspector of Sabarmati Police Station said, "The bus hit the couple ahead of Zundal Circle. We have informed relatives of the deceased about the incident."
