PUNE: The Pune Railway Division has started taking action against men who are travelling in ladies coach in Pune-Lonavla-Pune local train. The Railway has observed that some men are still travelling in ladies coach despite objections by lady passengers.

“We have received complaints from ladies that a large number of men forcefully enter the ladies coach and continue travelling despite objections by the ladies. The Railway officers including Railway Protection Force (RPF) identified some male passengers and action has been taken. They were produced before the Railway court, which imposed a penalty on them,” said Manoj Jhawar, spokesperson of Pune Railway Division.

Recently, the division converted a general coach into ladies coach. The regular lady commuters had requested the Railway to provide the extra coach as they faced inconvenience in boarding during peak hours. The Railway converted a general coach into ladies coach from November 1.

“If any male passenger is found in the ladies coach, they will be penalised. It has been observed that some male passengers board the train when it is about to depart from Pimpri and Akurdi stations. The Railway has conducted massive checking drive and found maximum male passengers were travelling without valid ticket,” said Jhawar. The Railway has requested men not to travel in ladies coach as it is illegal.
