Parents and teachers of SSC students continue to raise the issue of increasing level of difficulty in the new curriculum. In fact, City school teachers say it is too early to give students mock papers to solve because the syllabus is usually covered only by the end of December.
While some teachers have complained of a vast syllabus for subjects of language, others have noticed that the syllabus for Mathematics in class 9 is incorporated in the class 10 syllabus this year.
Rajesh Pandya, a teacher from a school in the western suburbs, said, "This year, the class 10 syllabus is new and the portion of language subjects are vast compared to previous year's. Till December end, the teachers will be able to complete it as in January all schools will conduct prelim exams for class 10 students. It is good that test papers will be uploaded by Balbharati but I don't know how students will benefit out of this as most of the subjects are 100 marks papers this year."
Echoing similar sentiments, another teacher from a school in the central suburbs, said, "This year the English language paper will be really tough for students I feel. As the board is going to ask grammar for 20 marks separately. We really don't know how test papers will help students as the teachers will finish teaching the portion of these students by end of December."
Where the language teachers are showing concern for students who may face difficulty for the internal 20 marks being scrapped and making portion more tougher. The Yuva Sena members recently met the education minister Vinod Tawde and requested him to reinstate the earlier marking system so that students can complete with other board students.
One of the parents from western suburb said, "I am wondering why class 9 Maths is included in class 10 syllabus this year increasing the anxiety of students."
