The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has cautioned the government that police personnel posted at Sabarimala are under immense stress owing to the lack of canteen and rest facilities there.

Commission member K. Mohan Kumar on Saturday called upon the government to address the basic needs of police officers. The State Police Chief was directed to submit a report within two weeks on the steps adopted.

Registering a suo motu case, the commission noted that the personnel raised various issues pertaining to changes brought about to duty turns and uniform during the panel’s inspection on November 20.

Facilities for the personnel to rest were found to be inadequate at Nilackal and Pampa. Water supply was also not ensured in toilets, the panel found.
