BU syndicate to select VC search committee nominee on Nov 28
tnn | Nov 25, 2018, 00:27 ISTCoimbatore: The Bharathiar University is all set to convene a syndicate meeting in Chennai on Wednesday (Nov 28) to select a nominee for the vice-chancellor (VC) search committee.
The meeting, which was earlier scheduled to be held at the university on November 16, was postponed after the principal secretary to the higher education department, Mangat Ram Sharma, who is the convener of the committee that presently heads the university, was appointed the monitoring officer of cyclone relief measures in Dindigul.
Sources with the university said the syndicate meeting has been shifted to Chennai as Sharma, who was held up with the cyclone relief work, would not be able to come to the city to head the meeting. They said the principal secretary was likely to name a nominee for the search committee.
An election had to be conducted at the senate meeting held earlier to select a nominee for the VC search committee as two factions had fielded as many different nominees. When asked whether the syndicate meeting too would see an election, a source said as of now things have not crystallised.
Another source close to the developments said only after analyzing the situation that syndicate members would decide whether to field a nominee for the VC search committee or not on Wednesday.
The university senate had selected C Subramaniam, former vice-chancellor of Tamil University, as the VC search committee member.
