Communal unity is the response to fundamentalism, says U.K. envoy

Communal harmony and unity must be the response to fundamentalism and intolerance, said Jeremy Pilmore Bedford, British Deputy High Commissioner to South India, at an event on Saturday.

The event, hosted by the Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali at Amir Mahal, saw Mr. Bedford pointing out that many countries — including India and the United Kingdom — were victims of such intolerance. He said people must stand together to combat such issues. Three million British Muslims make a valuable contribution to the nation, he added. Mr. Bedford also lauded the Prince of Arcot’s initiatives as founder-secretary general of Harmony India, in promoting communal harmony and multi-culturalism.

N. Ram, Chairman, THG Publishing Private Limited, highlighted the cordial relationship between the U.K. and India.

Cordial relationship

Mr. Ram hoped that the solution to Brexit would be a reasonable one that would suit all people and countries involved in it. Honouring the British Deputy High Commissioner and his wife Amanda Pilmore Bedford, the Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali said he prayed for a cordial and bilateral relationship between India and the U.K. during Mr. Bedford’s tenure.
