Plan for traders to be presented today

The work on the heritage tourism project at Chala will begin soon, Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran has said. The Minister chaired a meeting of officials on Friday to discuss steps to speed up the project implementation.

The detailed project plan on the renovation of vegetable-fish-meat market will be presented to the traders here, in light of the concerns raised by them. Architect Shankar, who has designed the project, will present the plan to the traders at the corporation’s hall at Chala at 12 noon on Saturday.

Panel to be formed

The shops of the vegetable, fish, and meat vendors will be rebuilt in phases. A committee will be formed with the Chala councillor as the convenor and with the trader community and the Chala Poura Samithi as members to oversee the rehabilitation of the shopkeepers. The committee will also identify an alternative location for the traders, until the completion of the construction activities.

To ensure the coordination of various departments, a committee with the District Collector as the coordinator and with officials from the city Corporation, Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority (TRIDA), Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Kerala Water Authority (KWA), Smart City, Public Works Department (PWD) and the Tourism department will be formed. It has also been decided to rebuild the amenity centre in Chala with the help of the city Corporation.

V.S. Sivakumar, MLA; Chala councillor Ramesh and officials of the Corporation, TRIDA, Habitat, and Smart City were present at the meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday.
