Karnataka: Pocso case convict granted 4 weeks bail to be with his pregnant wife

BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has granted four weeks bail to a convict in a Pocso case to enable him to be with his pregnant wife who is expect to give birth on Sunday.
Treating it as an exceptional case, Justice HB Prabhakara Sastry granted bail to Surendra for four weeks till December 20, by suspending his sentence. He clarified that the grant of bail should not be treated as a precedent for any other matter. Surendra has to surrender on December 21.
Surendra, a resident of Hoodanavadi, Devanahalli taluk in Bengaluru Rural district, had sexually assaulted a minor girl during an international wine festival at a city hotel in 2014. Tried as accused no.2 in the case, a trial court had imposed a jail term for three and half years apart from imposing Rs 4,000 as fine. The criminal appeal filed by him is still pending.
