Prakash Utsav celebrated with fervour in Hyderabad, grand procession draws thousands of devout

HYDERABAD: Recitation of Keertans, Guru ka Langar, and delivering of Gurbani Kathas, marked the 549th Prakash Utsav celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru, on Friday.
More than 25,000 devotees participated in the Vishaal Deewan (mass congregation) and offered prayers to Guru Granth Saheb Ji (the holy scripture of Sikhs) at Exhibition Grounds, Nampally.
The event, which was jointly organised under the aegis of Prabhandak committees, Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad and Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha, Ashok Bazar.
Prabhandak Committee president, S Baldev Singh Bagga, said, "Like each year, we have made arrangements so that devotees experience joy and gaiety, with performers coming from Punjab."
As part of the celebrations, a grand procession was taken out. More and more devotees joined in as the procession moved through the city streets. The procession was a spectacle for devotees and onlookers alike. The police had closed all the roads where the processions was carried out, and traffic was being diverted as the proceedings went on.
From the beautifully decorated chariot carrying the Sri Guru Granth Sahib, to the gatka performances by Gatka Party, Akal Gatka, Amritsar, the celebrations were every bit grand and majestic.
The display of martial arts, along with Punj Pyaares, and Nishan Sahebans - the religious flag bearers - on motorcycles led the procession around the city. Jasveen Kaur, a devotee, said, "We celebrate this festival every year as per the Sikh calender. All the community members come together, and the moments of joy are overwhelming."
