Panchayat Polls 2018: J&K witnesses 75.2% voting in Phase-III

JAMMU: An overall 75.2% polling percentage was recorded across the state in the third phase of panchayat polls held on Saturday. At 87.8%, Poonch recorded the highest voter turnout and Ganderbal the lowest at 12%.


Jammu and Kashmir’s chief electoral officer Shaleen Kabra said, “An overwhelming 83% voter turnout was recorded in Jammu division while Kashmir saw 55.7% polling percentage. Voter turnout was 59.7% in Kupwara, 51% in Bandipora, 30.8% in Baramulla, 41% in Budgam, 75.6% in Kargil, 64.1% in Leh, 85% in Kishtwar, 77.4% in Doda, 85.7% in Ramban, 83.8% in Udhampur, 83.2% in Kathua, 80.3% in Rajouri and 87.8% in Poonch.”


“Over 3.2 lakh citizens voted in the third phase of panchayat elections in the state,” Kabra added.


The first phase of the panchayat polls, held on November 17, saw an overall voter turnout of 74.1% across the state, while the overall polling percentage in the second phase was 71.1%. The fourth phase of the panchayat polls will be held on November 27.
