AGRA: Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) demanded a ban on the movie 'Ram Janambhoomi', which is written and produced by Shia Waqf Board chief Waseem Rizvi and depicts Ayodhya’s Ram Temple movement.
A student, Mohd Nazeem, who also happens to be a member of the AIMIM and has submitted a memorandum to the President of India through local district authorities, said that the film, if released, could vitiate the atmosphere. “This could create fissures between two communities,” he said.
Nazeem also threatened Rizvi to stop these “divisive tactics”, adding “hindustanis would gather and lynch him in his own office for spreading hatred.”
The film’s announcement comes at a time when the RSS and the BJP are pulling out all stops to mobilise people for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Dharma Sabha, a gathering of “sants”, to be held in Ayodhya on November 25.
Meanwhile, Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) has demanded a ban on the proposed "Dharma Sabha", saying it could polarise people.
“Why is the BJP government, which has been in power for the last four years, raising the Ram Mandir issue right before the Lok Sabha elections? The BJP does not have any real issues to discuss and all their promises are falling flat. They don’t have any love for Ram or the Mandir. They are just the issue to polarise voters,” said AMUSU secretary Huzaifa Amir.
Hamza Sufiyan, vice president of AMUSU said, “If they (BJP) really want to do something, they should support the Nirmohi Akhara, which is fighting the case in the court.” Sufiyan added that the government should ban organisations that create communal divides.
