CHENNAI: Rumours about Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s health made rounds on Friday evening, sending his fans into a tizzy. However, sources close to the actor soon rubbished these rumours and said the actor is fine.
“He is fine, and we request all not to believe in rumours about his health. He is in the city and will participate in an event organised by his wife Latha Rajinikanth, on behalf of her Daya Foundation, on Saturday,” Rajinikanth’s publicist Riaz K Ahmed told TOI.
Ahmed later issued a formal clarification to the media. “There are rumours being spread regarding thalaivar superstar Rajinikanth’s health, stating that he has been hospitalised. There is no truth to this. Rajini sir is healthy and doing well. Therefore, I request you all to not spread the word further,” he said.
Rajinikanth’s biggest film in terms of budget and reportedly costing about Rs 550 crore -- “2.0” -- is slated for release next Thursday, November 29.
The actor, who has completed the shooting of Tamil film “Pettai,” returned to Chennai last week.
After his interaction with reporters at Chennai airport in which he purportedly mentioned BJP as “dangerous party” as thought by the opposition parties, he hurriedly met the media the next day and clarified what he meant.
“If the opposition thinks the BJP is a dangerous party, it should be so – for the opposition parties,” he clarified.
Soon after cyclone Gaja made landfall, he expressed his concern about the affected people and directed his Rajini Makkal Mandram to collect relief materials worth about Rs 50 lakh for distribution to the people in the affected districts. On Thursday, five trucks carrying relief materials left Chennai for the affected region.
