CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Friday alleged that relief work is not going on as per schedule in cyclone Gaja-affected districts of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters at Chennai airport after returning from cyclone-affected districts, Stalin said, “Relief work would have happened faster had chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami visited the affected areas and stayed there.”
He wanted the government to involve farmers’ associations, NGOs and political parties in relief work. "The government must hold a meeting with these people and discuss the ways to carry out relief work. I once again ask the chief minister to consider this," said Stalin.
He said the relief work by DMK cadre would continue in the coming days. "We have donated Rs 1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and have also asked all the party MLAs and MPs to donate one month's salary," said Stalin.
On Thursday, Stalin flagged off several truckloads of relief materials, worth Rs 4 crore, from the party office in Trichy to the delta districts.
