CHANDIGARH: Two groups of women thrashed an on-duty woman Home Guard volunteer at Sector 56 police post on Wednesday night.

Three Palsora women were arrested and others booked on Thursday on the complaint of Sarabjit Kaur, the Home Guard volunteer. She was at the post along with a head constable when about 25 women stormed in around 10.30pm. They belonged to two groups and accused each other of assault. "As tempers rose, they came to blows at the post. When I intervened, some of them misbehaved with me. I called up my seniors," Kaur said in her police complaint.

Created ruckus at police post

When other cops reached the spot, the women abused and manhandled them too. “Amid the ruckus, I went to the munshi’s room but they followed me there, assaulted me and tore my uniform,” Kaur added.

Cops then called up the control room, seeking more women staff to control the situation. The women cops left the post till more force arrived.

After scrutinising the footage of the CCTV cameras installed at the post, cops booked the attackers, five of whom were identified as Anu, Phoolwati, Beena, Runa and Maya, all residents of Sector 56. Later in the day, police arrested three — Maya, Phoolwati and Gudiya. They were produced in a court that sent them to 14-day judicial custody.
