Podcast: Please Explain

Have you subscribed to our Please Explain podcast yet?

If the answer is “no”, you totally should. This Melbourne Express blogger loves listening to it on the way home from work every Thursday.

This week’s episode dives into the issues surrounding the Israel embassy mess that Scott Morrison got himself into: to move or not to move?

You can read about this week’s episode here, listen to it below, and find the series on iTunes, Google Podcasts, Spotify or wherever else you get your podcasts.

Why don’t you have a listen on your way to work/school/wherever you’re off to this morning?

Traffic heads up

Heads up for anyone driving home from the city near the MCG this afternoon:

Vigil for Gold Coast baby

Dozens of people have paid tribute to the 9-month-old girl found washed up on a Gold Coast beach.

A candle-lit vigil was held last night and flowers were cast into the ocean as mourners paid tribute to the baby, 3AW reports.

The child’s father has been charged with her murder and her mother, originally from Geelong, is in a mental health facility, the report adds.

“We’re sorry we didn’t pick up on it,” said a woman who attended. “We’re sorry we didn’t help you.”

But shoppers are being warned to do their homework to ensure they're getting a real deal.

More on that bus depot fire

3AW is reporting that damage from the fire at a bus depot in Mt Waverley could exceed $2 million.

No one was injured in the blaze.

Wild weather kept SES busy overnight

The wild weather kept the State Emergency Service busy with 44 callouts between 7pm Thursday and 7am Friday. Twenty of those calls were for fallen tress.

After copping the brunt of last night's strong winds, Bayside suburbs will continue to be hit with gusts of between 80 and 90 km/h across Friday morning. The conditions should calm by late afternoon.

The maximum wind speed recorded overnight was a whopping 127km/h in Wilson's Promontory just after 5am.

More on those damaging winds

Winds could reach 120 km/h in some coastal areas today.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds in the East Gippsland area and the southeast parts of Victoria, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h.

For coastal areas east of Orbost, damaging winds averaging 70 to 80 km/h with gusts to 120 km/h are possible this morning.

Buses on fire

A fire erupted in Mt Waverley overnight when a bus that a mechanic was working on caught fire.

The flames spread to two additional buses and sent smoke over the Monash Freeway.
