A major Anglesey road will be shut for up to six hours today.

The A545, which runs between Menai Bridge and Beaumaris, will be closed to traffic from 9.30am because of a tree which is potentially dangerous.

Anglesey Council said school bus drivers had been made aware of the issue.

A spokesman said: "We are taking steps to remove the tree which poses a possible danger to road users on the A545 Menai Bridge to Beaumaris.

"The road will close completely between Beaumaris and Menai Bridge, for up to six hours,to carry out the works.

"This will affect journeys to and from the Beaumaris, Llanfaes, Llangoed and Penmon area.

"School bus and public transport providers are aware of the situation."

The closure is the latest in a series on the road in recent months.

Back in September, the road had to be closed for days after a wall collapsed onto a pipe and caused a gas leak.

As much as "40 tonnes of rubble" were said to have fallen onto the road after the retaining wall of a property collapsed and caused the leak.

And in November last year the road was closed for more than a week after heavy rain caused a landslide on the road, with calls for major improvements made in the wake of this.

In December 2015, the town was cut off for 15 hours when trees, rubble and earth crashed onto the road during a storm.

The road was also reduced to one lane for three months in 2016 while repairs were carried out to cracks caused by a landslide.
