Alleged Kosmiq Trademark Suggests Subcompact Skoda SUV Might Be Coming

After the demise of the Yeti, Skoda’s modern venture into SUV territory started a couple of years ago with the Kodiaq. The Czech brand’s equivalent of the Volkswagen Tiguan was then followed by the smaller Karoq.

In the meantime, the car firm extended their range in China with the introduction of the Kodiaq GT, a coupe crossover, and the Kamiq, a vehicle that slots under the Karoq.

Skoda is apparently interested in in launching yet another crossover, this time in Europe – and according to AutoCZ, who are quoting a dealer document, they have already secured the Kosmiq nameplate.

If the information is correct, then the Kosmiq will become the brand’s most affordable high-riding vehicle. It will share its platform with the Volkswagen T-Cross and Seat Arona, and rival the likes of the Hyundai Kona, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur etc.

The Czech publication speculates that Skoda will only offer the Kosmiq with front-wheel drive, just like the Volkswagen T-Cross and Seat Arona, with which it will share most, if not all, of the engine lineup.

The subcompact SUV is expected to debut in 2019. Meanwhile, Skoda is getting ready for the presentation of the Scala on December 6 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The successor of the Rapid was previewed by the Vision RS Concept, and it’s underpinned by the VW Group’s A0 MQB architecture. It will be available with five engines, a dynamic suspension, infotainment system with two different screen sizes, and a bundle of active and passive safety systems.
