Four women staying in TN cyclone relief camp die in road accident

NAGAPATTINAM: Four women died and a boy sustained grievous injuries when a speeding sport utility vehicle hit them at Neermulai in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday night. The victims were staying in a relief camp at Neermulai after cyclone Gaja ravaged the area on November 16.
The victims were standing near the Neermulai Public Health Centre (PHC) around 11pm when the accident happened.
Police identified the deceased as N Amutha, S Sumathi, S Rajakumari and R Saroja, all hailing from Agaraneermulai village that was badly affected by the cyclone. Amutha and Sumathi died on the spot. Rajakumari and Saroja died while being rushed to Thiruthuraipoondi Government Hospital.
Saroja’s son, S Manikandan, 15, who suffered injuries, was referred to Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital.
Police sources said the driver of the SUV, identified as Nobel Najibee, 29, of Vizhinjam near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, was detained. Nobel and his family members were heading to Nagore in Ramanathapuram district.
