Admin of GNPC Facebook group held
TNN | Nov 23, 2018, 23:59 ISTThiruvananthapuram: Ajithkumar, the founder and admin of the Facebook page ‘Glassile Nurayum Platile Curriyum’ (GNPC) surrendered before the excise officials here on Friday. He was in hiding for the past several months.
The excise officials recorded his arrest and produced him before a local court, which granted him bail. A week ago, the high court, while considering his anticipatory bail, had directed him to surrender before the probe team.
The rxcise department had registered a case against Ajithkumar and other admins of the group in July this year after it was brought to their notice that pictures and videos promoting consumption of alcohol were being widely shared in the group. Many of the pictures even displayed consumption of alcohol in the presence of children.
The excise department also invoked charges for organizing parties in the name of the group in which liquor was served without valid permit. Ajithkumar had been evading arrest ever since.
