At least 6,500 employees including BLOs, aanganwadi workers and those from IMC actively participated in a drive to collect 1 million signatures from voters on Thursday. They collected signatures through gigantic boards and also through door to door collection.  The team of Limca Book of Records team was seen collecting data from signature registers and also counting signature from sign boards to establish the record.

The motive behind this drive is to record 100 percent turnout in the voting day. The Cleanest City, which will soon get the Smart City tag, attempted to set the record of collecting signatures of 1 million voters pledging to cast votes on the D –day (November 28). To achieve this ambitious target, over 6500 employees were deployed by the administration in the district.

Mega sign boards were places at 80 prominent public spots in the city including malls, squares, and government buildings for the voters to take pledge and sign. The major programme was held at Rajwada where a mega signature board was placed. District Election Officer Nishant Warwade and IMC Commissioner Ashish Singh were the first to sign on the board in the morning. At Regal Square, another mega board was placed, where several people put their signatures.

As per the schedule, Booth Level Officer (BLOs), 600 employees of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), who run garbage-collection vehicles, and aanganwadi workers visited door-to-door to collect signatures of voters as a pledge to cast votes on November 28. Special registers were also given to them to take signature of voters.  In rural areas, Zila Panchayat CEOs, Janpad Pachayat CEOs and secretaries were given the task to collect signature.

Under the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Practices (SVEEP), the District Election Office launched the campaign on November 14 by getting the first signature of Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat and two Election Commissioners at Brilliant Convention Centre.  The single day campaign was officially launched on Thursday in the district. The objective of the drive was to achieve 100% turnout this time which was approximately 69% in the last assembly elections.
