KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress leader Sovan Chatterjee’s estranged wife Ratna Chatterjee on Thursday sent a legal notice to Sovan asking him to tender an apology in public over his allegations aired through an interview on a television channel.
“There are four specific allegations he has made and Ratna Chatterjee has asked him to tender the apology in seven days. Otherwise we will file civil and criminal charges against him,” Ratna Chatterjee’s lawyer Subhasis Dasgupta said.
Dasgupta claimed that the original plaint that was filed on November 13 by Sovan Chatterjee did not mention anything about adultery. “He had charged Ratna Chatterjee of cruelty, financial irregularity and being aloof from her husband. While the proceedings were on, he brought in allegations related to adultery,” Dasgupta said.
According to sources, Chatterjee claimed that he has evidences towards his claims and is supposed to produce them before the court on November 29, when the matrimonial suit comes up for a hearing.
When asked about the legal notice, Sovan Chatterjee said, “Facts are clear as water. I will respond to my claims in the court and I have evidences towards the allegations I have made.”
Chatterjee, who refused to answer questions on issues that are sub-judice, said that Baisakhi Banerjee is a well-wisher and she is being dragged into controversies in an unjust way. "While the central agency probe was on, Ratna Chatterjee used to take suggestions from Baisakhi," he said.
In a television interview on Thursday, Banerjee refuted charges levelled on her and claimed that Sovan Chatterjee was surprised to find existence of some companies which Ratna had allegedly floated. “Sovan Chatterjee is a good friend. I will stay by him during his troubled days,” Banerjee said.
