Three weeks after senior BJP leader Anil Parihar and his brother were shot dead by unidentified gunmen, the Home Ministry handed over the probe into the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The investigations into the case was earlier being carried out by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Jammu and Kashmir police.
The Parihar brothers were shot at point-blank range outside their house on November 1 when they were returning home after closing their shop. The J&K government had earlier constituted a SIT to probe into the killings, and based on its findings agreed to transfer the case to the NIA, officials said.
The SIT had detained some people in connection with the killings and with NIA help identified two more suspects.
The NIA is likely to question the personal security officers (PSOs), who were assigned to the leader but were not present at the time of attack, soon after taking over the investigation. ens
