Many evinced interest in knowing the details of the schemes, says Telangana official

The success stories of Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima of the State government were presented at the innovation fair held at the headquarters of Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome on Wednesday.

Details of the two schemes were explained to the participants by Agriculture Production Commissioner of Telangana C. Parthasarathi. The two schemes were part of the exhibition organised in connection with the three-day international symposium on Agricultural Innovation for Family Farmers among the 20 such interventions from as many countries selected by the FAO for the event.

Mr. Parthasarathi said over phone from Rome that schemes from only three countries from Asia were chosen for the symposium, with two other entries being from Nepal and Iran. The other 17 schemes selected were from African, South American and European countries.

He explained that a large number of participants at the innovation fair evinced interest in knowing the details about Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima schemes being implemented by the Telangana government. During an informal talk, the participants were explained about the constraints faced in the implementation of the schemes as well as the drivers that led to innovation and success.

The symposium was inaugurated by Director General of FAO Jose Graziano Da Silva and the innovation fair was inaugurated by Deputy Director General of FAO Maria Helena Semedo. President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council Inga Rhonda King and Vice-President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development Pawl Winters also attended the event.

Seed sector

Mr. Parthasarathi along with Director of Telangana State Seed and Organic Certification Authority K. Keshavulu met Dr. Graziano Da Silva and shared the details about Rythu Bhandu and Rythu Bima schemes and about the activities in the seed sector, including OECD and ISTA Congress to be held in Hyderabad in June-July next year and the idea of developing global seed hub in Telangana.

While appreciating the innovate schemes of Telangana, the Deputy Director General of FAO said the two schemes have been selected among 20 innovative schemes out of 700 innovations across the globe.

Secretary General of International Seed Federation, Switzerland, Michael Keller, also visited the innovation fair and observed that the two schemes would also support farmers to produce quality seed.
