The breadth of the market favoured the advances with 934 stocks advancing and 717 declining while 410 remained unchanged. On the BSE, 1251 stocks advanced, 1017 declined and 138 remained unchanged.
The Indian benchmark indices are managing to hold on to the morning gains with the Nifty50 up 10 points, trading at 10,609 while the Sensex gained 55 points at 35,254.
Nifty IT and Nifty Media are the two outperforming sectors, up 1 percent led by Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Mindtree, Tata Elxsi, TCS, Infosys, Infibeam and HCL Tech.
Selective media stocks are also buzzing led by Zee Entertainment Enterprises, Zee Media and UFO Moviez.
Nifty Metal is however down a percent dragged by Coal India, Jindal Steel & Power, JSW Steel, NALCO, NMDC and Tata Steel.
From the banking space, IDFC Bank jumped 6 percent while HDFC Bank, YES Bank and RBL Bank also traded in the green.
Selective FMCG stocks are also buzzing led by Godrej Consumer, United Breweries, ITC and Marico.
From the BSE midcap space, the top gainers are IDFC Bank, Indian Hotels and Tata Chemicals while the top losers are Adani Transmission, Cummins India and Castrol India.
From the BSE smallcap space, the top gainers are Deepak Fertilizers, 63 Moons and Taj GVK while the losers included 3i Infotech, Hindustan Media Ventures and Ashapura Intimates.
The top gainers from NSE include Zee Entertainment, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Adani Ports, ONGC and TCS.
The top losers included HPCL, Indian Oil Corporation, UltraTech Cement, BPCL and Tata Steel.
The most active stocks were YES Bank, HDFC Bank, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Reliance Industries and DHFL.
Adani Gas and Birla Cable are some of the few stocks which hit new 52-week high on the NSE.
39 stocks have hit new 52-week low including names like ABG Shipyard, Bombay Rayon, CARE Ratings, NTPC and Somany Ceramics among others.
