Scotland’s Deputy First Minister, John Swinney, will begin a week-long visit to India on Friday to strengthen bilateral ties. The visit will focus on trade and investment and aim to boost cooperation in technology and life sciences. Swinney will be accompanied by a delegation of senior leaders from Scotland’s higher education sector.
Congress leader Sonia Gandhi will address a public meeting along with party president Rahul Gandhi in Medchal, to give a much needed boost to the party to take on the ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi in the December 7 Assembly polls. Last month, the Congress forged the alliance, ‘Prajakutami’ (People’s Alliance), with the TDP, the Telangana Jana Samithi and the Communist Party of India to take on the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in Telangana.
The 21st round of India-China border talks between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will be held at the picturesque Dujiangyan, near southwest China’s Chengdu city, over Friday and Saturday. Ahead of the border talks, China presented an upbeat picture of Sino-India ties.
India will aim for a turnaround when they take on Australia in the second T20I in Melbourne. The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, which comprise three back-to-back matches in a short span of five days. In the ICC Women's World T20 semifinal, being played in North Sound (Antigua), Women in Blue will meet England. India have had a fantastic run in the T20 tournament so far, beating all three opponents in the group stage including Australia.
Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh will kick off the year-long celebrations to mark the 550th birth anniverary of Guru Nana Dev, that falls in 2019. The Centre has said it will celebrate the event through a series of activities across the country. The Centre will build and develop corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district to the International Border to facilitate Sikh pilgrims from India to visit holy Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, in Pakistan, which is on the banks of the Ravi river. It has decided to develop the historic town of Sultanpur Lodhi, associated with the life of first Sikh master Guru Nanak Dev, as a heritage town, on the lines of a smart city.
