Clashes over Milad procession in Kanpur and Mirzapur, six injured

VARANASI/KANPUR: A day after the clash between VHP activists and Milad-un-Nabi revellers in Mirzapur, a religious procession by the minority community was disrupted in Kanpur, leading to communal tension in the area on Wednesday morning. At least six people were injured in the violence that ensued and four were detained.
Mirzapur also remained on the edge on the second consecutive day when some people tried to stir trouble in Mukeriganj by pelting stones on the Milad-un-Nabi procession. The situation was brought under control on police intervention. In Kanpur, the Milad-Un-Nabi procession was attacked in Sayed Nagar, Rawatpur area. The situation was brought under control after intervention by the police, who detained four people for instigating trouble in the area. Several companies of PAC and a company of the RAF have been deployed in the area to maintain peace.
