indore: The members of Muslim community took out procession on the occasion of Milad-Un-Nabi in the city on Wednesday.Large processions passed through Khajrana, Chandan Nagar, Moti Tabela, Gulzar Colony and Manik Bagh in the morning. Celebrations were organised in Chhawani, Bombay Bazaar, Azad Nagar and Machhi Bazaar. Homes and markets were decorated with flowers and lights.
After procession, people exchanged greetings and held family get-togethers. Special dishes and sweets were prepared in families as treats for children and guests. From popular and all-time favourites like gulab jamun and laddoos, traditionally prepared dishes like sheer khurma and biryani were also served. Another traditional dish was tharida. It is an Arabic soup dish, which is prepared from broth, stewed meat and bread crumbs.
Sharing how they celebrate, Dr Yunus Shaikh said, “Most of us live in joint families and we ensure that our kids experience the joy of having a close-knit family, which is much more important in today’s era where most teenagers suffer from depression and loneliness.” The entire family got together, cycled, played games and enjoyed food at home.• “Living away from home, it is not possible for us to go back home for a day in middle of a working week but we can celebrate togetherness with our friends and even colleagues,” IT professional Safwan Hussain said.
