PANCHKULA: Two Uttar Pradesh-based contract killers had killed four members of a family in Khatauli village near Raipur Rani in Panchkula district for Rs 10 lakh on the night of November 16, according to police.

A day after Lovely Rajput(44), the daughter of victim Rajbala (68), was arrested, police on Wednesday said she had given the two Rs 10,000 as token money and the rest of the amount was yet to be paid to them. Police said Rajbala hatched the murder conspiracy to usurp the property of Rajbala and her three grandchildren running into crores of money. Agricultural land worth Rs 50 crore was in the name of Rajbala and the children. Police contacted the chartered accountant of Rajbala and took the will of the property in their custody for further investigation.

Chandimandir police station house officer Inspector Naveen Kumar, the investigation officer, said, “Lovely fed the dog with some intoxicant and left the main gate of the house open to allow the killers entry. She then left. The killers came on a motorcycle. Raj Kumar, he husband of Lovely, is absconding.”

Lovely had not been coming for interrogation despite being summoned. She was making excuses, raising the suspicion of cops. She was last seen at her mother’s house at the time between 11am and 4pm and her cell phone location was found to be in Ambala. A country-made pistol was used to carry out the killings. More arrests would be made and the murder weapon recovered soon, police said after a local court remanded Lovely in fiveday police custody on Wednesday. Police would also look into the disappearance of Sudha Rajput, the wife of Rajbala’s only son Upender Singh Rajput. She has been missing since 2016. A case was then registered with the Barwala police. Police, however, would not probe the alleged suicide of Upender as no complaint was lodged. Upender was found hanging in the house in 2008. Rajbala and her three grandchildren Ayush Rajput, 12, Aishwarya Rajput, 18, and Divyanshu Rajput, 16, were found dead at their house on November 17 morning.
