Tamil Nadu rain: Holiday declared for schools, colleges in Chennai and Kancheepuram districts on Thursday

CHENNAI: Chennai and Kancheepuram district collectors on Wednesday night declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Thursday in view of forecast of rain.
Earlier on Wednesday, Chennai district collector A Shanmugasundaram said that a decision on declaring a holiday for educational institutions in the city would be taken on Thursday morning, after observing the overnight rainfall. However, hours later he announced that all schools and colleges in view of weather forecast about rain for Thursday.
On Wednesday afternoon, the India Meteorological Department forecast that the sky condition would be generally cloudy over Chennai for the next 24 hours. It also said intermittent rain was likely to occur in the city.
On Tuesday evening, the collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Wednesday in the light of weather forecast over heavy rain in the city.
When contacted by TOI, he said that there were no complaints about educational institutions functioning on Wednesday defying the government order.
