Muzaffar Baigh may join Lone’s front

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MP Muzaffar Hussain Baigh on Tuesday indicated that he may join the third front headed by People’s Conference (PC) chief Sajad Lone in Jammu and Kashmir.

“I am ready to join the third front if it takes the shape of a political force in Jammu and Kashmir. It should be encouraged because people are looking for something new,” Mr. Baigh said.

On the PDP’s decision to stay away from the urban local body elections in October and following the National Conference’s boycott stand, Mr. Baig said: “I am hurt and disillusioned by the way the matters were handled by the PDP, which unwittingly fell into a trap by boycotting the polls. I was not taken on board on the boycott.”

The 72-year-old Mr. Baigh said: “PC has been like a home to me. Lone has been like a son. If Lone is interested, there should be a third force.”

The party seems set to split for the second time since the BJP withdrew support to the Mehbooba Mufti government in July.

“Kashmiri boys and soldiers are dying in Kashmir. Politicians are responsible for this bloodshed. I am sorry to say that the PDP has failed to take the middle ground route for which it was formed,” the MP from Baramulla said.
