An over-speeding car plunged into Hussainsagar when the driver lost control and rammed the footpath. Four occupants of the car, all engineering students, escaped unhurt.

Saifabad Assistant Commissioner of Police C. Venu Gopal Reddy said the incident took place around 1.30 a.m. on Tuesday and the youngsters were proceeding towards Secretariat junction, when their car plunged into the water.

Manikanth, V. Amudha, Venkat Ramaiah and Pawan Kumar, all students of VNR VJIET in Pragathinagar, were rescued by passers-by and the vehicle was taken out of the water with the help of a crane.

“They were going to celebrate the birthday of one of their friends on Tank Bund,” Mr Reddy said.
