BBA student arrested for death of organ donor girl
tnn | Nov 22, 2018, 04:00 ISTSurat: Jahnvi Patel, the 21-year-old aspiring fashion designer, whose heart was flown to Mumbai and transplanted in a mason, had become a victim of a freak accident on November 17.
Jahnvi had suffered serious head injury after she fell on the road from the closed boot of a moving BMW on which she was sitting. The accident had happened near her Happy Home Residency in Vesu.
On Tuesday, Umra police arrested her friend Robin Tailor, who was driving the BMW, for causing death due to negligence. Police also seized the BMW. Police arrested him after registering statements of witnesses. Tailor is a BBA student and his father recently purchased the car from its previous owner in Rajkot.
On November 17, while hanging out with friends, Jahanvi and her friend Musifa Ali, 20 sat on boot cover of the BMW and later their friend Robin drove the car for around 70 feet, police sources said. However, both lost balance and fell on road at around 9.30 pm. They suffered injury in head and Jahanvi became unconscious. She also suffered heavy blood loss on the spot. Musifa’s injury on head and fracture in left hand are also serious, but he is recovering, an officer at Umra police station informed.
Jahanvi was declared dead by doctors on Tuesday. Her heart was flown to Fortis Hospital in Mulund, Mumbai, where it was transplanted in 27-year-old mason who was surviving on mechanized pumping.
“The preliminary investigation reveals that that Tailor drove the car for around 70 feet and this was when Jahnvi and Musifa lost balance, may be due to some jolt, and fell on road. She was shifted to hospital in unconscious condition and remained in the same medical condition,” said a police officer.
The spot on Udhna Magdalla Road where the accident took place is a popular hangout place for youngsters . Large number of young boys and girls gather at nearby spots on the road and other adjoining locations.
