
Jadavpur University received the first installment of a Rs 100 crore central grant under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), a scheme that provides financial aid to selected state universities to upgrade research facilities.
Of the sanctioned amount of Rs 41.66 crore, the central share was Rs 25 crore and state’s share Rs 16.66 crore.
A letter signed by Jaydip Mukhopadhyay, the additional state project director of RUSA, said a PTI report.
Confirming the development, pro vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University, P K Ghosh told The Indian Express, “Yes we have received the first installment of the Rs 100 crore grant. We have received about Rs 41 crore now.”
Joint coordinator of the Centre for Society and Religion at JU, Manojit Mandal on Monday thanked the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the state government for the fund in a Facebook post.
Jadavpur University is the first institute of higher education in the state to have gotten the grant, based on its NAAC accreditation for five years, beginning September 2014.
