Anil Kumar Sharma, accused of attacking Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inside Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon, was living at a rented accommodation in Naraina for over three decades before he moved out three years ago, his 74-year-old former landlord told The Hindu.
Brahm Singh, a resident of Naraina’s CB Block, recalled that Anil had come to the area with his paternal aunt when he was around 10 years old. “Anil, who was studying here, was staying with his aunt and his cousin, while his parents were staying at their village near Allahabad,” Mr. Singh said.
He said Anil “never seemed like the person who could do something like this” because “he never discussed politics or politicians”.
However, the former landlord said the accused is extremely proficient in Hindi and texts pertaining to the language. The local children used to take tuitions from him, he said, adding: “He is an educated man. He used to talk a lot. Once he would start talking, he would not stop,” Mr Singh said. The former landlord said Anil got married a few years ago and was living in another rented accommodation, owned by him, in the same area.
“The couple had a daughter. She would be 10 years old now. Three years ago, he decided to leave the one-room accommodation. Anil said he would keep his wife and daughter in the village. He came here twice or thrice and seemed normal,” Mr. Singh said.
Cordial relations
Talking about his relationship with his wife and family members, Mr. Singh said he was always warm and cordial with them.
“His parents often came here to collect old-age pension. The couple seemed happy together and did not appear to have any monetary issues,” the former landlord added.
