Charcoal shampoo, apple cider vinegar and LESS washing: Women share the clever tricks they use to prevent greasy hair
- A woman was seeking advice on how to deal with her greasy hair
- Posting in a Facebook group she was met with a barrage of responses
- Some of the tips included washing the hair less and purchasing certain products
A group of women have shared the handy tricks they've come up with to prevent and treat unsightly greasy hair.
Posting in an Australian makeup Facebook group one woman called out for advice on how to deal with her oily locks and was met with a barrage of responses.
'I've tried so many different things like changing shampoos, I bought new pillows, I change my bed linen more regularly, even changing my showering routine to the morning instead of at night but nothing seems to be working,' she said.
Most of the women in the group agreed that the woman, who said she washes her hair every day, needs to wash her hair less.

One explained that over-washing is why it's greasy and that she needs to retrain her hair by having longer time in between washes.
'When you wash your hair everyday your scalp goes into overdrive and creates more oils, your scalp needs oils to actually be healthy,' she said.
'I used to wash mine everyday and it was ALWAYS greasy, I started washing it twice a week and just braiding it all the time and now I only have to wash it once a week and it still doesn't go greasy (unless I sweat a lot or straighten it heaps).'
A variety of people also suggested that the woman shampoo her hair twice as one wash often isn't enough to break down the residue and product build-up.

The main consensus on the post was that the woman, who said she washes her hair every day, needs to wash her hair less
This means the first shampoo removes the build-up while the second actually cleans it.
They added that she should condition once and this should only be reserved for her ends.
'My mum's hairdresser said to put baby powder in then blow dry on cold! Hot air just melts and the oil further and moves it around,' another woman suggested.
Many women recommended a variety of products that the original poster should use on her hair as well.
They said buying a shampoo that's for fine and oily hair or a deep cleansing shampoo could do the trick.

One person recommended her using the Dry Bar Charcoal Shampoo and the Replenishing Conditioner in conjunction with each other

One woman told her that L'Oréal Paris Elvive Clay Pre-shampoo Mask, which instantly absorbs oil for deeply cleansed roots, had worked for her
'You should try the Dry Bar Charcoal Shampoo, my hair's not as oily as yours but I only wash my hair once to twice a week,' a group member said.

Another said they used aFekkai's Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo
'This is the shampoo, you can get it in Sephora in store and online and it also comes with the recommend conditioner! But best thing I've used for my oily hair.'
Another said they use a clarifying shampoo to combat grease, such as Fekkai's Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo, which she said is 'a miracle worker'.
One woman told her that L'Oréal Paris Elvive Clay Pre-shampoo Mask, which instantly absorbs oil for deeply cleansed roots, had worked for her.
Other tips were going to the hairdresser and getting highlights and running cold water over hair after washing it.
Another handy trick was diluting apple cider vinegar in a cup of water, pouring it through the hair and leaving it for a few minutes to get rid of buildup and make hair less greasy.
