MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district unit of BJP has extended its full support to janagraha meeting organised by Sangh Parivar at the Nehru Maidan here on November 25 to drum up public support for construction of a temple for Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

The meeting has been organised in accordance with wishes of religious leaders in Delhi recently that such meetings should be held all across the country to whip up support for the issue.

Extending support for janagraha meeting, Sanjeeva Matandoor, president of the district unit of BJP said the party has always stood by any mass public movement that Parivar has organised in the past. This Janagraha meeting is to mobilise mass public opinion on need for Ram Temple in Ayodhya, where daily pooja is offered to the deity at a makeshift place. It is believed historically that this is the place where temple for the Lord existed, he said.

History of Ram Temple agitation dates back to 1528. There have been 73 varied agitations for the temple since 1992 when disputed Babri structure was pulled down by kar sevaks. The Parivar in association with the saints and religious leaders had assumed of the Ram Temple movement since 1984 leadership and continues to be in the forefront of every single agitation or movement related to the temple since then till present, he noted.

“As president of district unit, I appeal to BJP workers from every booth to attend the meeting in large numbers,” he said adding BJP while upbeat about SC ruling in favour of the temple is also buoyed by support expressed by many Muslim organisations for construction of temple at Ayodhya. Nearly 75 per cent of work related to construction of temple is over. Daily pooja is offered at Ayodhya to bricks collected for the purpose, he added.
