On Monday, the police arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly pickpocketing a salesman and pushing him out of a local train to escape near Dadar railway station.
According to Hindustan Time, the accused has been identified as Ibrahim Shaikh (42) and is wanted in at least 31 cases of theft and robbery. The incident took place on Monday when Sharad Dhaku Thotam (44) boarded a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-bound train from Thane around 9.30 pm, to visit a relative in Dadar. Thotam was near the footboard as the train was approaching Dadar station, that is when he felt a hand inside his back pocket. He immediately realised that his pocket has been stolen.
Thotam told the leading daily, “I grabbed the collar of the man [Ibrahim Shaikh] whom I suspected had taken my wallet. He then pushed me from the train and jumped out.” After that, Shaikh pushed Thotam, and he fell on his face and injured his shoulder. Thotam shouted for help and the crowd caught Shaikh and started beating him up. Later, the Dadar government railway police (GRP) intervened.
The GRP took both Shaikh and Thotam to the hospital as both had sustained injuries. The police recovered a stolen mobile phone and Rs 8000 in three wallets, including Thotam’s, from Shaikh’s pocket. Shaikh has 10 cases registered against him at Andheri, 4 at Mumbra, 3 at Dadar, 3 in Navi Mumbai, 3 at Mankhurd, 3 at Kurla, 2 at Borivli, 2 at Bandra and 1 at Thane.
