As per sources other members of the family too tried to disrupt the action but officials held on to their nerves and continued with the search in which they have found a lot of incriminating evidence of GST evasion by this firm. Speaking to TOI, Ashutosh Baranwal, CGST Commissioner, Ludhiana said, “We have conducted a search on the business and residential premises of this firm which led to huge recovery of cash which has been deposited in the sundry account in a bank for meeting the tax liability of the firm which is being ascertained at this moment”
Sources also informed that the entire operation was conducted on November 16th by team of 20-25 officials led by Daljit Kaur, deputy commissioner of anti-evasion wing and this firm was evading huge amount of GST from past some time by indulging into the practice of under invoicing. The firm used to issue sale bill to their customers of almost one third of the actual sales made, for example if a buyer purchased crackers worth Rs. 1,20,000 then he would be given a bill of only Rs. 40,000 and in the entire transaction the GST to the tune of Rs. 14,400 would be evaded. (18 percent being rate of GST, the actual tax the firm liable to pay in this transaction is Rs. 21,600 on Rs. 1,20,000 but due to under invoicing the GST paid by firm will be Rs. 7,200 on Rs. 40,000)
Sources also say that along with this department has also found huge shortage of stock of the firm and the valuation of this stock is underway after the exact tax liability of the firm will be calculated by the department.
