For this the Tourism Ministry plans to coordinate with the Government’s different levels through management tools that will enable the promotion and strengthening of the diverse tourist attractions Amazonas region has to offer, as per Chirinos.

She urged local and regional authorities to join the great tourist project towards the country’s Independence Bicentennial.

Within this framework, the deputy minister highlighted the construction of Kuelap Fortress’ cable car system. In 2017 —the year it was inaugurated— arrivals at the archaeological complex expanded 84% compared to the previous year, thus recording a total of 102,905 visitors.

Chirinos said foreign tourist arrivals at the region’s lodgings reached 417,000 last year, a 9% rise compared to 2016. Sightseers came mainly from Germany, the United States, France, and Spain.

Kuelap Fortress —Amazonas region’s most popular tourist attraction— was included in The Wall Street Journal’s Top 10 List of Hot Destinations to visit in 2018 and The New York Times’ 52 Places to Go in 2018 list. Between January and September, visits to the Kuelap Fortress increased 14% over the same period in 2017.
