A National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Wednesday rejected a plea by Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit, an accused in the Malegaon 2008 blasts, seeking names of witnesses in the trial.
On November 12, Mr. Purohit had filed two applications — one stating that the NIA has not submitted names of all witnesses in the trial, and that truncated information was shared with him. However, the NIA counsel Avinash Rasal objected to it and said since the matter is sensitive, names cannot be shared. Judge Vinod Padalkar accepted this contention.
The court however, allowed the other application filed by him and directed the registrar to share videos and photos of the blast with him.
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday refused to stay trial in the case and adjourned the petition challenging sanction to prosecute him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
A Division Bench of Justices R.M. Savant and V.K. Jadhav adjourned the matter for two weeks.
