NOIDA: The traffic police has closed the Mamura intersection-Sector 66 route by placing jersey barriers to open up the free left turn for commuters on the route.
The road would remain blocked due to auto-rickshaws lining up on the stretch and covering almost half of the road. Cops said the attempt was successful on the first day.
Barriers were placed at the stretch around 3.30pm on Wednesday to help commuters travelling from the Ghaziabad side via the NH-24 towards Sector 66.
According to traffic police officers, auto drivers would block the free left turn to look for or ferry passengers.
“The diversion will ensure that commuters can travel towards Sector 66 without any hassle from auto drivers who block the road,” SP (traffic) Anil Jha said.
Commuters, however, pointed out that autos have been covering the other side of the road, which heads towards Model Town, and the absence of traffic cops at the stretch affects enforcement of traffic norms there.
Traffic inspector Anil Pandey admitted that more deployment was required at the spot.
“We will discuss the issue with the SP (traffic) and deploy two more constables so that traffic is smooth on both sides,” he said.
