To deal with traffic in the city, the police have decided to form an advisory committee that would suggest ways to manage traffic in a better way.
Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police (Kurnool) C.M. Gangaiah at an awareness programme for autorickshaw drivers on Tuesday called upon people follow traffic rules and cooperate with the traffic police in keeping the city’s roads safe.
As the number of autorickshaws were increasing here, Mr. Gangaiah said the programme would sensitise drivers on prevailing traffic-related issues and help the police enforce traffic rules. “Traffic near the new bus stand has been quite problematic with more number of autorickshaws plying around the area, ” he said, urging the drivers to wait in queues to seat passengers and refrain from halting abruptly.
“Some drivers park their rickshaws haphazardly, obstructing traffic flow, and have no regard for rules. We would like to rectify this issue at the earliest and violations would be met with stringent action,” he added.
Mr. Gangaiah also directed the drivers to wear the mandated khaki uniform and ensure their vehicles displayed registration numbers.
He directed them to have documents of their vehicles, alongside driver’s licences, and avoid driving drunk.
Meanwhile, the traffic police held an awareness programme for students at the Government Junior College for Boys near Kalluri Estate area here.
