A woman has died after being shot in the stomach in a suburban home on Wednesday. 

Emergency crews arrived at the Conrad Court home in Geelong, south-west of Melbourne, at 9.20pm, where a woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found with a gunshot wound.

She was rushed to hospital but later died as a result of her injuries.

A man who was at the home at the time of the incident is assisting police with their enquiries.

Homicide squad detectives were at scene early Thursday morning and the investigation is ongoing.
