PUNE: More than 7,000 registrations of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) scooters are on hold as the private firm which has manufactured the scooter retrofitted CNG kits was not able to provide the green riders with EMI schemes due to unavailability of micro-financing schemes.
AM Tambekar, Managing Director of MNGL, told Sakal Times that in November 2016, five scooters retrofitted with CNG kits were flagged off and currently, 300 such scooters are running on city roads. The CNG kit is manufactured by iTuk Manufacturing India Pvt Limited. But now more than 7,000 registrations to fit CNG kit in their scooters are pending as iTuk is not getting any micro-financing schemes from banks to provide its customers with EMI options.
The cost of the CNG kit is Rs 15,000 and they are fitted in 2 wheelers like Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, Hero-Maestro/Duet (Registered between 2010 and 2017). The kit has a maximum capacity to hold two kg of CNG.
To fit CNG kits, the person has to go to the iTuk workshop where it can be fitted, but now since they are facing problems of not getting finance from micro-financing companies or banks, they have stopped fitting CNG kits because people need EMI options and they do not have any options to provide them.
