A Hurriyat activist, named Hafizullah Mir, was shot at by terrorists in Achabal area of South Kashmir on Tuesday.
Terrorists barged inside Mir's residence and fired indiscriminately. Mir sustained critical gun shot wounds and was evacuated to nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, Mir's wife also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation in the matter.
Mir was reportedly released from jail last month after serving a two-year term.
