Noida: The administration of Gautam Budh Nagar has written a 20-point letter to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) citing all action it took to contain the sale and bursting of firecrackers during Diwali.

A week ago, the CPCB had sent a show-cause notice to the district administrations of Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad, seeking a response on why and how crackers not permitted by the Supreme Court and not falling under the category of green crackers were sold in the two districts. The CPCB had asked them to furnish a written explanation.

The letter, signed by the district magistrate (DM) of Gautam Budh Nagar BN Singh, has explained that the GB Nagar administration had run a campaign in Noida among schools and colleges soon after the Supreme Court order. The letter also specified that the administration had identified 135 specific locations for residents to burst safe crackers and stated that licences were granted to the sellers only on the condition of verification by police. It also said all those sellers have been booked because of violation of the cracker norms.
