Kathiriya sent to judicial custody
tnn | Nov 21, 2018, 04:00 ISTSurat: Alpesh Kathiriya, convener of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), was sent to judicial custody by a local court when the police produced him before it here on Tuesday. The police did not request for his custody since the investigation in the sedition case here has already been completed, a crime branch official said.
A number of PAAS supporters had gathered outside Surat district and sessions court to show their support for Kathiriya and also showered flower petals on him.
Kathiriya was brought to the city after a long time. He was lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad ever since his arrest in a sedition case registered there.
The PAAS members were also upbeat as Kathiriya was granted bail by high court on Tuesday in the sedition case registered in Ahmedabad.
“Police did not request custody of Kathiriya and the court sent him to judicial custody. Police will submit a supplementary chargesheet in the court about the charges against the accused. They have already submitted the chargesheet against the other three accused,” a police officer said.
Meanwhile, crackers were burst near the residence of Kathiriya by his family members and supporters to celebrate bail by the high court.
