Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) on Monday announced that it will hold its next state executive committee and state advisory committee meeting at Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district on November 23.
Kahalgaon, a sub-divisional town, is home constituency of Congress legislature party (CLP) leader and nine-term MLA Sadanand Singh.
It is for the first time in recent decades that the Congress's state executive committee meeting is being organised at a far-off sub-divisional town, instead of the party's state headquarters at Sadaqat Ashram here.
Insiders say the executive body meet at Kahalgaon is being organised at the request of Singh, who wants to formally launch his technocrat son Shubhanand Mukesh in politics. Mukesh, currently working as deputy general manager in Tata Steel at Jamshedpur, is an engineer.
Earlier in October this year, Singh announced his retirement from electoral politics with effect from 2020 assembly polls to pave way for his only son Mukesh to enter politics. "I want to see my son Mukesh contesting election from Kahalgaon assembly constituency in the next election," Singh had said in October.
Mukesh said he would have no problem in contesting the election if his father wished so. "I had supervised father's election in 2015 and am aware about the nuisances of electoral politics," he said, adding he had been supervising all preparations for hosting the state Congress executive meet at Kahalgaon.
"The party's state executive and state advisory bodies' meet will be held at the Kahalgaon Block Congress Committee office from 3pm on November 23. Prior to it, a division-level Congress workers' conference will be held at the Sharda Pathshala in Kahalgaon from 10am on the same day," the CLP leader's advisor Madhukant Singh told TOI.
BPCC spokesperson H K Verma said it would be the second executive committee meet of the state Congress after formation of new committee under leadership of Madan Mohan Jha on September 18 this year. Verma said AICC in-charge for Bihar Shaktisinh Gohil and BPCC chief Madan Mohan Jha would reach Kahalgaon on November 22 to participate in the party's meetings.
