IREO residents complain of illegal settlements
TNN | Nov 21, 2018, 03:53 ISTGURUGRAM: Residents of IREO Uptown have complained about illegal settlements in the locality. Some hutments have come up next to the only approach road to the society, making it difficult for commuters to drive in and out of the area.
A resident said, “This 16 feet road is our only way into the township. It’s narrow and two vehicles can’t drive down the road at the same time. The original building plan had mentioned a 24 metre approach road but that was not made. Now the problem is that some shops, including a tea stall, and other settlements have come up at the start of this road. As a result, some vehicles are always parked at the spot which further impedes traffic movement.”
Residents said that the illegal settlements came up in the past one year and were raising safety concerns. “In the past, a settlement near Vatika City had caught fire and caused massive damage,” one of them said. DTCP had conducted a drive against settlements in September “but they have come up again”, said another resident. “We have requested authorities to act against them,” he added.
Hitesh Pahuja, president of IREO Uptown RWA, said, “The 16-metre road is a revenue road and is not with the developer.”
When TOI contacted the IREO management president, he said the company was in talks with other developers whose projects were coming up in the vicinity. “A 24-metre road has not been built yet because the land is not entirely owned by IREO,” said Nitya Mohan. “We have sent proposals to builders like Emaar who are building projects here. If the communication goes well, a solution will be reached.”
