Six persons including a minor have been held and all nine accused have been identified in connection with the murder of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctor Iqbal Qasim in Jahangirpuri on November 12.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Aslam Khan said the accused have been identified as Rizwan alias Rizu, Rizwan alias Nasty, Vishal Rawat, Mohd Ammar, Sandhya Rawat, Raju Rawat, Riyasat, Afroz and a minor. Sandhya, Raju and Riyasat are yet to be arrested, she said.

The police said, the minor who worked as a compounder at Qasim’s clinic, for nearly a year, told his friend Ammar about the presence of cash and jewellery at the victim’s house because of the doctor daughter’s wedding in December.

“Ammar told Nasty who further roped in Rizu and Vishal. The accused conducted a recce before executing the plan to ascertain what time does the doctor’s daughter leave and how the doctor spends the day,” Ms. Khan said.

After recce, the accused allegedly tried to rob on November 10 morning but failed because the daughter was home. They allegedly planned again on November 11 but were told by the accused minor that Qasim who had the almirah keys was going to Meerut to invite relatives for the wedding.

The next day, the day of the incident, accused Nasty, Rizu and Vishal executed the plan and entered the house right after the daughter left for school where she is a guest teacher. “They strangulated him and punched him on the chest after which he became unconscious. The accused took the keys from his coat’s pocket and fled after looting,” Ms. Khan said.

Party to crime

The police said the accused had plans to go to Kashmir for a vacation with the robbed money but their plans were foiled because investigators had identified them and reached their houses to interrogate their parents. “They went to Jamtara in Jharkhand instead where Vishal’s relatives reside,” the officer said.

Ms. Khan said that Nasty told his father Riyasat and Vishal told both his parents and a friend Afroz after committing robbery and murder and kept the cash and jewellery with them before fleeing which made them party to the crime. The police claim to have recovered about 70% of the jewellery and ₹5.5 lakh.
